Curious George face in hole

2:44:00 PM

Drews company does a children's carnival every year. This years theme was a walk in the park. Here was our activity/ station.

We used a wardrobe box from Ace Hardware. Covered it with blue paper using packing tape. I traced the monkey on white paper from my projector. We used washable paints to paint George. After painting we cut him out and used two sided tape to tape to blue paper. I cut out the clouds with the extra white paper and also taped those to the blue paper. Last drew cut a door out in the back for kids to step into and a hole for the face. We had to hold down the box with center blocks so it would not blow away.

Countertop Redo

Countertop redo

9:21:00 PM

We moved into our home three years ago this Christmas. When we moved in it was a foreclosure so we did the must dos and moved on. One of the things we always talked about redoing were our countertops. We do not have the money for brand new countertops with one kid and one on the way. This seemed to be the best alternative. So after two years of researching and hesitating we finally made the decision to make the transformation.

We used the Rustoleum cabinet transformations kit charcoal color.

This is a picture of the 30 square feet but we used the 50 square feet kit. The kit runs $240 with the extras that are needed to complete the task our total was around $315 at Lowes. I saw the kits cheaper on Amazon, but we waited too long to order it and wanted to get the task done.

Ok so to the process...

I will warn that the process is long and messy. Took three days to complete the task and a full 5 days for counters to be completely dry.

Step 1. Tape off everything!! We placed a drop cloth over our cabinets and moved our appliances. (Made for a good time to clean behind these items.) Remove the sink or tape around. We ended up covering the floor with trash bags.

Step 2. Sand the countertops with the sander provided.

Step 3. Paint the base coat and spread the chips. This is the messiest part. Just go with it... Not even worth trying to clean as you go. I was worried it would not go on even or we would run out and it was fine. We actually had extra bags of chips when we finished.

Step 4. Wait at least 12 hours...

Step 5. Sand the countertops and vaccum off extra chips until smooth.

Step 6. Clean countertop with water.

Step 7. Paint with final protectant coat that gives it a glossy look.

Step 8. Wait for gloss to dry. The box says 4-6 hours it was an unusually cold day and we ended up waiting almost 24 hours for it to dry. We removed the tape at this time. We then waited a full 48 hours to move back our appliances and put back in the sink.

As of right now I would say the countertops look much better and it was not a difficult task just very messy and took an entire weekend.

Camping Bridal Shower

2:16:00 PM

My sister's wedding is coming up this summer, so the bridesmaids and my mom hosted a bridal shower for her. Her fiance and her love to go camping, they are very outdoorsy people. So naturally we decided to have a camping theme bridal shower. Here are what the invites looked like. To order something like this check out this etsy store nelliev2.

We did different breakfast type foods.

Two of the girls made this Camp Smith sign (her fiances last name is Smith) which was perfect for decorations and pictures.

My sister and her best friends.

My chalkboards.

One of the girls came up with the idea to do a trail mix table. This was our party favor. You can get the free printables here. http://catchmyparty.com

We played this Candy Memory Game.

My mother and I wih the bride to be.

How to make a Diaper Cake

3:23:00 PM

Items Needed:

Scissors

65 diapers any size works (I used size 1 here)

Circle piece of cardboard

Paper towel roll

Tape

Rubber bands small and large

Wide ribbon

Ribbon skinnier than your other

Cake topper (shoes)

Bow/flower

Hot glue/double sided tape

Steps:

1. Roll diapers bind with small rubber bands. Make sure to roll any design on inside.

2. Cut out piece of cardboard or buy at store.

3. Tape paper towel roll to circle cardboard piece.

4. Start putting diapers together to make each layer. Start with bottom layer it will need 38 diapers. I used large rubber bands around each inner circle to keep together.

5. Second layer needs 18 diapers, again keep each set together using large rubber bands.

6. Third layer needs 6 diapers.

8. I then filled the paper towel roll with 3 diapers for reinforcement.

9. Cut and paste/glue ribbon on to cake. Remember to not actually glue the diaper because you will ruin them, just glue the ribbon together. Here is the ribbon I used both bought at Wal Mart.
